Trainer Jim Taylor has unearthed another star in Perth. Brilliant sprinter Barakey was a dominant winner of the Westspeed 3YO Hcp on Saturday and will now be set for Festival Of Perth features later this year.
Barakey (3g Key Business – Dance Hi by Ideal Planet) is unbeaten in three starts and closed off his first campaign with a comprehensive victory at Belmont Park. “I will give him four weeks in the paddock,” Taylor said. “That will enable me to have him up and firing for the Festival.”
Taylor trained Hay List to 8 wins from 9 starts in 2009 before the Group 1 sprinter transferred to the Eastern States.
Barakey started a long odds-on favourite following two midweek wins by a combined margin of 8 lengths. A power-packed individual, he relaxed in front for jockey Jason Brown and then let down to defeat Rock Moves (Medal Of Honor) by three three lengths.
Barakey is a brother to LR Belmont Oaks winner Ifestio. Their dam Dance Hi has also foaled G3 Champion Fillies winner Hi On Love (Love a Dane) and the dam of LR Bunbury Stakes winner Keytomoney (Key Business).
Dance Hi won a Champion Fillies of her own when it was rated a G2 event back in 1995.
Perth’s latest rising star is by Rangeview Stud resident Key Business (Success Express) who has sired 192 winners of 640 races at a 53% strike-rate. There are a 12 stakes winners among that total and Barakey is blessed with enough talent to add some black-type of his own at the summer carnival.
