Be Responsible monsters maiden at Murray Bridge

Gentle giant Be Responsible nailed another interstate win for Rangeview Stud sire Long Leaf with a last-stride victory in the Sportsbet Maiden Plate (1200m) at Murray Bridge on Wednesday.

Be Responsible (3g Long Leaf – Tarp by Bletchley Park) was racing on debut and showed determination to come off the back of Hasta La Oriental (Alabama Express) to reel in Affaire Vue (Dundeel).  “He’s a bit of a stable favourite and got his head down right on the line,” trainer Richard Jolly said.  “And it was fitting to see him break through in the familiar colours of David Price Bloodstock.”

Be Responsible is within a month of turning four and follows Colour Blast (Victoria) and Hard Leaf (South Australia) who were profiled on Page 49 of the current Westspeed Stallions Magazine here

Bred and sold by Dawson Stud for $140,000 at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions, he’s a half-brother to Sight Success (Magnus) who earned the equivalent of AUD5.05 million for Hong Kong trainer John Size and owner Tam Wing Kun.

Price paid $45,000 for Sight Success at the 2018 Perth Magic Millions and he won to Group 2 level in Hong Kong defeating Champion Sprinter Lucky Sweynesse (NZ) in the 2023 Premiers Bowl (1200m) at Sha Tin.

Their dam Tarp has a first-crop filly foal by Darling View Thoroughbreds sire Lightsaber (Zoustar).

“We wanted to lead but he got bottled up and didn’t like it,” winning jockey Jake Toeroek reported.  “He was running around in the pack but knuckled down once in clear air.  I threw the whip and that didn’t help so he did a good job to run down the leader.

“Richard calls him a giraffe and on that performance he can take the next step and go through the grades.”

Rangeview Stud stands Long Leaf (Fastnet Rock) for a $3,300 (inc GST) service fee at Burekup and for bookings or more information, contact Robbie Gray on 0409 243 461.
