Beethoven retired to Saudi Arabia

North American-based stallion Beethoven has been purchased for stud duty in Saudi Arabia.

Beethoven (Sky Mesa – Moonlight Sonata by Carson City) won the G2 Kentucky Juvenile at Churchill Downs in 2008 and was considered a classic prospect the following year until an injury knocked him out of consideration for the Kentucky Derby.

Trained by John Ward for owner John Oxley, Beethoven retired with a 7: 3-0-2 record.

His Bernardini half-brother topped the 2010 Keeneland 2YO Sale in April when making $625,000 to the bid of prominent owner Jess Jackson.  The colt has since been named Wilburn.

Their dam Moonlight Sonata captured the G3 Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes in 2002.  She is a half-sister to G1 Belmont Futurity Stakes winner Bevo (Prospectors Gamble).
