Black Caviar’s victory in the MVRC William Reid Stakes on Friday night catapulted Eliza Park sire Bel Esprit into fourth place for the 2010-11 Australian sires’ title.
High Chaparral ($6.60 million) leads the premiership but he is treading water with Lonhro ($4.79m), Redoute’s Choice ($4.73m) and Bel Esprit ($4.71m) closing quickly.
The $310,000 winner’s share of the G1 William Reid helped Bel Esprit leap-frog More Than Ready ($4.66m), Encosta de Lago ($4.64m), Commands ($4.54m) and Zabeel ($4.51m).
Black Caviar (4m Bel Esprit – Helsinge by Desert Sun) is now unbeaten in 11 starts after waltzing to another runaway win over Crystal Lily (Stratum) and Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock) at Moonee Valley.
Bred by Rick Jamieson at Gilgai Farm in Nagambie, Black Caviar was part of the Swettenham Stud draft at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale. Peter Moody bought her for $210,000 and the William Reid result sent her earnings past $2.60 million.
Her younger brother Moshe is rising through the ranks and Gilgai Farm sells a Casino Prince – Helsinge colt as Lot 277 at the upcoming Inglis Easter yearling sale. Their dam foaled a Redoute’s Choice filly in September.
