Bosustow has emerged from the shadow of his big sister Amelia’s Jewel with a stunning victory in the RL Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on Friday night.
Group 1-placed as a 2yo in Brisbane and runner-up in a 3yo black-type support-race at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day, Bosustow finally arrived on the big stage with a bang for big bucks at the Magic Millions meeting postposed from last Saturday.
Bosustow (3c Blue Point – Bumbasina by Canford Cliffs) settled with clear running six lengths off pacemaker Catoggio (Written Tycoon) in a capacity field under Josh Parr. Presented at the top of the straight, he balanced up and hit top-gear to have the race won at the furlong.
Apart from banking $1,950,750 for connections, it was a value-added victory with a stud career already assured as a $900,000 acquisition for the Rosemont Stud Alliance at the 2023 Gold Coast Magic Millions.
Amelia Park’s Peter Walsh bred and sold him through the Segenhoe Stud draft and kept a share in a Colts Syndicate managed by Rosemont Stud’s Anthony Mithen. Sporting Amelia Park’s AP8 brand, the bay colt has always been a favourite among his owners despite the near-misses last year.
“He’s a beautiful moving colt and we were very keen to buy him at the Magic Millions,” Mithen recalled. “He has the right attitude and the pedigree as a half-brother to Amelia’s Jewel.”
Co-trainer Annabel Neasham was delighted at the presentation. “It’s a big prize pot for a very well-bred colt with a great bunch of owners,” she said. “He’s always been thereabouts and we knew he had a big one in him. Josh had a lap full of horse around the corner and timed it to perfection.
“I’m just so happy for Rosemont Stud and their partners. He’s got a really nice future.”
Bosustow did have excuses for his last-start loss in the G3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) at Eagle Farm according to Parr. “There were a few things that didn’t go his way that day. He was quite fresh, it was a hot, humid day and he was restless and agitated in the barriers and missed the start.
“Today, he was the ultimate professional. We sat midfield, three-wide with cover and his turn of foot was incredible. He was challenged late and remained strong the last bit.”
Peter Walsh and the Amelia Park team returned to the Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale last week with a Siyouni (Fr) – Bumbasina full-brother to Amelia’s Jewel and half-brother to Bosustow. He was also sold through Segenhoe Stud and made $625,000 to the bid of Ascot trainer Luke Fernie.
Amelia Park has 7 yearlings catalogued for the Perth Magic Millions next month and one of the highlights is the filly by Bosustow’s sire Blue Point (Lot 161). She’s the first foal of Sandown Hillside winner Witchfulthinking (War Chant) and is from the immediate family of Champion Australian 3YO Filly Delicacy (Al Maher).
Blue Point (Shamardal) was named Champion European Sprinter in 2019 after winning his second G1 King’s Stand Stakes (1000m) at Royal Ascot. He shuttles between Darley Victoria and Kildangan Stud in Ireland and other WA vendors with his yearlings for the Perth Magic Millions include Forest View Farm, Olive Hill, Mungrup P/L and Price Thoroughbreds.
