Australian Horse of the Year Scenic Blast will be in action this Sunday, August 1, when he runs in the G1 Bing Crosby Stakes (1200m) at Del Mar.
Scenic Blast (Scenic) is coming off a fast-finishing fourth in his USA debut at Hollywood Park a month ago. Trainer John Shirreffs has elected to keep him at 1200m this weekend.
“He lost a week’s work so John didn’t want to step him up,” managing owner Elio Galante said this week. “The horse was on antibiotics for five days but is completely over it now. All things going well he will run a super race.”
Scenic Blast worked 1000m in 59.80s on Hollywood’s Cushion Track last Friday. His long-term goal is the G1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs in November.
Scenic Blast’s champion stablemate Zenyatta be the star attraction at Del Mar on August 7. The undefeated Street Cry mare will be gunning for 18 wins in a row in the G1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes.
