Blacker goes back-to-back in Devonport Cup

Dream Flyer has always shown plenty of promise and he will be given a chance to fulfil that potential in the Group 3 AAMI Hobart Cup (2200m) on February 12.

Trainer Troy Blacker is confident the gelding can make the grade as a stayer after a history-making victory in the Devonport Cup on Wednesday.

Dream Flyer (5g Savoire Vivre – Unamah by Top Avenger) completed back-to-back Devonport Cups for Blacker after overcoming early trouble on the new Tapeta circuit.  He emerged with a well-timed finish to defeat Catwen Boy (Catbird) by a length.

Blacker trained his older half-brother Dream Pedlar (West Quest) to victory in the 2011 Devonport Cup.  “It was the first time we’ve pushed him up to 1800m and it was a great effort,” Blacker said.  “He relaxes in his races and has a quick turn of foot.

“We will give him another run leading into the Hobart Cup.  All going well, we will tip him out for a spell and then head to Melbourne for the spring carnival.”

Blacker also took Dream Pedlar to the mainland where he won the LR Bendigo Cup, Ballarat Gold Nugget and G3 JRA Cup at Moonee Valley.

Dream Flyer is by Armidale sire Savoire Vivre from LR Tasmanian One Thousand Guineas winner Unamah.  His owner-breeder Michael Mee has a West Quest yearling half-brother to the Devonport Cup winner and Unamah foaled another colt by Savoire Vivre in November.
