Top-class brothers Playing God and God Has Spoken have been a great tandem act for Blackfriars and their three-quarter brother will be one of the stars at Perth’s upcoming Magic Millions Winter Sale.
Durham Lodge has catalogued the Blackfriars – Idyllic Doll foal as Lot 60 among its draft of 33 weanlings going under the hammer this Sunday, July 29.
“He’s a lovely looking foal and reminds me a lot of Playing God,” Durham’s Jeremy Smith said this week. “He’s an August foal and is probably a bit more advanced than Playing God at the same stage. He’s a rangy type and there’s plenty of scope for him to keep developing.”
The colt’s dam Idyllic Doll (Scenic) is a half-sister to the Neville Parnham trained stars who both graduated from Durham yearling drafts at the Perth Magic Millions. They sold for a combined total of $68,000 and have earned $2.40 million for Colin Loxton’s Cockatoo Ridge Syndicate.
Parnham is looking forward to another lucrative spring and summer with the brothers. Playing God will be set for the G1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) on the last day of the Melbourne Cup carnival leading up to the G1 Railway Stakes – Kingston Town Stakes double at Ascot.
Playing God (4h Blackfriars – Dolly Will Do by Rubiton) has won the last two editions of the Kingston Town and he’s well overdue for a Group 1 in the east after placings in the Australian Cup, Australian Guineas, Turnbull Stakes and C F Orr Stakes.
“I need to talk it through with Colin which way we go,” Parnham said. “He’s a pretty special horse and winning a race like the Emirates would take him to another level for a stud career.”
Blackfriars (Danehill) is in a race of his own for the Sunspeed championship this season. It’s his second sires’ title in a row and, at $16,500, Durham have priced him at a more than reasonable fee this year.
