Durham Lodge sire Blackfriars is rapidly bearing down on the 100 winners barrier. His tally increased to 93 when Bukit Mas won the opening event at Kranji on Friday night. Bukit Mas is one of 12 winners for the Victorian Derby winner in Singapore/Malaysia.
Trainer Desmond Koh admitted Bukit Mas can be handful for stable staff. “He got loose and broke away before his first start. He got banged up quiet a bit and that put him six months behind but he recovered very well and has come back in good form.
“He can get a bit stirred up so we added a set of ear-muffs to his gear. Hopefully he can go on with it now and he’s going to get better when he gets up even further than 1400m.”
Bukit Mas (4g Blackfriars – Miss Centaine by Centaine) races for the Bukit Mas Stable and was a $70,000 buy from the Durham draft at the 2007 Perth Magic Millions. His younger half-brother by Hurricane Sky is also destined for South East Asia after selling for $41,000 at the 2009 Perth Magic Millions.
Miss Centaine has a 100% record with Blackfriars having already foaled the Perth winners Lady Rivalry and Danby Wiske. The dam won four races in Perth, including the Blackfriars Handicap at Belmont Park.
