Promising Stratum filly Blink will chase black type over the Melbourne Cup Carnival after an impressive all the way win in the Book Your MVRC Xmas Party (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
Blink (3f Stratum – Bridie Belle by Al Akbar) won a Geelong maiden in August but bogged down at Flemington last month when unplaced behind Pinker Pinker on a Slow 7 at headquarters.
The Danny O’Brien trained filly was a $90,000 buy from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions. She is the first foal of G2 NZ Great Northern Guineas winner Bridie Belle from the family of G1 VATC Toorak Hcp winner Penny Edition (Sovereign Edition).
“She’s a little beauty,” stable rider James Winks said. “She gave me a lovely ride and I think she should get 1400m. There’s a bit of improvement in her.”
Blink is a first-crop daughter of Champion 2YO stallion Stratum. The son of Redoute’s Choice has now sired 24 winners of 40 races out of his first crop from Widden Stud.
