Blitz back in form at Kalgoorlie

Class mare Ningaloo Blitz returned to form with a vengeance in the Kingsgate Cup (2100m) at Kalgoorlie on Sunday.

The Dan Morton trained stayer launched a long, sustained gallop under Jordan Mallyon to hit the front at the top of the straight.  She stayed on strongly under 58.5kg to maintain a three-quarter length margin over runner-up Kalahahni.

Ningaloo Blitz (5m Natural Blitz – Elzahoney by El Moxie) had won four races in a row at Pinjarra, Bunbury and Ascot (2) during the summer months but had disappointed during her current preparation.

“She finds form after a few runs under her belt and over more ground,” Morton said.  “Now that she’s approaching peak fitness, I’m looking forward to seeing her run in the Tatts Cup.”

The $40,000 LD Total / GTC Tatt’s Cup (2300m) is scheduled for Sunday, August 18 on the same programme as the Palace Hotel Goldrush.

Morton’s cousin Aaron Morton bred and manages the syndicate that races the mare.  He operates Queenslea Park and the Pingelly property also sold this year’s Listed T J Smith Trophy winner Sireeze (Choisir).

Ningaloo Blitz is by Natural Blitz and she has a 2yo sister and yearling brother by the Mogumber Park stallion.
