Stephen Theodore has nominated his last-start Kaphero winner Jennyfromtheblock for the Download the Sportingbet App Hcp (1200m) at Sandown this Sunday.
Jennyfromtheblock is by Swettenham Stud freshman Kaphero and she resumed from a long spell to score an impressive on-pace victory at Warracknabeal a fortnight ago. It’s a big step up in grade but the Cranbourne trainer believes his filly has the ability to win in town.
“It was painless to watch her effortless win first-up,” Theodore said. “She’s starting to live up to the promise she had shown in the spring before being injured. It’s been a long road back and now we can start to enjoy the ride.”
Jennyfromtheblock (2f Kaphero – Yule Smile by Rory’s Jester) had finished midfield on debut in the LR Ottawa Stakes at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day last year. “We nursed her back and it’s been a great team effort,” Theodore revealed. “I’m sure there are more in store for her owner Geoff Kemp who is a great stable client.”
Theodore utilised Shadowbrook Farm’s state-of-the-art water walker to aid her recovery. The Shadowbrook pre-training facility is situated a short float trip south of Cranbourne at Cannons Creek.
Flower Hill Stud bred Jennyfromtheblock and she was a $22,500 buy for Theodore at the 2012 Adelaide Magic Millions. Flower Hill owners Peter Horridge and Juliette Hittmann operate an agistment property at Birdwood and have also retained three Rory’s Jester mares at stud.
Jennyfromtheblock’s dam Yule Smile (Rory’s Jester) won three times for Juliette and her parents Noel and Josie Hittmann who bred numerous winners over the years in the Adelaide Hills.
Another Rory’s Jester mare on the farm is Folly Doll. Her filly Dashing Doll (Dash for Cash) won 7 races and her latest Dash For Cash gelding has been sold to Malaysia.
Kaphero (Danzero) will stand for a $6,600 (inc gst) service fee at Swettenham Stud this year. His second crop averaged over $65,000 during Session 1 at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale in March.
