Bobbie dazzler in Bobbie Lewis

With Black Caviar in limbo, We’re Gonna Rock took the opportunity to win the G3 VRC Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) down the straight at Flemington on Saturday.

We’re Gonna Rock (6g Fastnet Rock – Harrow by Dehere) was last seen beating the best of the rest behind Black Caviar in the G1 Goodwood Hcp at Morphettville in May.  He went into a Goodwood on the back of a G3 victory in the SAJC Irwin Stakes.

He resumed at headquarters after 17 weeks and he was also gelded while spelling.  “There’s a lot of improvement in him yet,” trainer Mark Kavanagh said.  “And there ain’t no Black Caviars through the spring, so who knows.

“There’s a race for everyone over the spring.  You’ve just got to space them and put them in the right races.”

We’re Gonna Rock cost $180,000 from Yarraman Park at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  Connections have banked more than $457,000 since his winning debut at Flemington in December 2009.  He failed on a Heavy 8 in the 2010 edition of the Bobby Lewis.

The Bobbie Lewis winner is by Coolmore Stud champion Fastnet Rock from a winning half-sister to G1 winners Bluebird The Word (Waikato International) and Porto Roca (STC Coolmore Classic).  The latter is also the dam of this year’s G1 Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso (Dubawi).
