There was more good news for incoming Roselee Park sire Super Easy (NZ) on Saturday when his elite mare Bonny Lass defeated a star-studded field in the G2 Foxbridge Plate (1200m) at Te Rapa.
The successful start to her latest campaign continues a black-type career highlighted by a richly-deserved Group 1 victory in the BCD Group Sprint (1400m) at Te Rapa in February.
Bonny Lass (6m Super Easy – Posh Bec by Le Bec Fin) defeated six Group 1 winners with a customary turn of foot despite some pre-race concerns on the Heavy 9. “She’s tough and that was a very good effort,” co-trainer Rogan Norvall said. “She had trialled well and had pleased us in her training.
“Her coat is coming through ideally and it’s a great start to this preparation.” The G1 Tarzino Trophy (1400m) is her next assignment at Hastings on September 7.
Super Easy (Darci Brahma) sired over 100 individual winners from his previous base across the Tasman at Hallmark Stud. Apart from Bonny Lass, his NZ-bred Stakes winners includes Super Strike who was placed in the G3 Premier’s Cup (2000m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Roselee Park’s Tracy Rodwell stands Super Easy (NZ) for Kiwi expat Brock Lewthwaite who is flying high with Fat Roy Slim (Ouqba). The promising stayer will be set for the G2 Perth Cup (2400m) following a winning streak of five in a row during a productive autumn preparation.
Super Easy replaces NZ Horse of the Year Jimmy Choux (Thorn Park) who died earlier this year after five books in Serpentine. “Brock’s father Bill Lewthwaite has Pussycat Holiday boarding here and one of our first foals this season is her chestnut colt by Jimmy Choux,” Rodwell said.
Pussycat Holiday (Private Call) had conceived Super Easy winner Prawns Eleven (NZ) at Hallmark Stud and he completed a hat-trick at Ascot for Brock Lewthwaite in October 2022.
Rodwell also reports another early arrival is the King’s Troop foal from Viammo (Viscount). “He’s a big bay colt just like his sire. The dam is owned by Bart and Kaye Venrooy and they’ve bred lots of winners from that family.”
The colt’s third dam Royal Amazon (Jungle Boy) foaled Big Boomer (Tribu) for the Venrooys in 1997 and he won a LR Ngawyni Stakes (1000m) at Belmont for trainer Bob Harvey (jnr).
Super Easy (NZ) stands at Roselee Park for $5,500 with King’s Troop ($4,400) and Super One ($8,000). Fees (inc GST). For bookings or further information call Tracy Rodwell on 0400 011 691.
