Shepparton based breeder Damian White is a strong supporter of Super VOBIS and that paid off in spades for the connections of Easy Drama at Flemington on Saturday.
White sold the colt to Roy Higgins and Wylie Dalziel for $40,000 at the 2013 Gold Coast Magic Millions and he banked $129,000 in prizemoney and bonuses on debut in the VOBIS Gold Ingot (1200m).
Easy Drama (2c Real Saga – Miss Carefree by Last Tycoon) won by over a length at headquarters and jockey Vlad Duric predicted there are better wins ahead. “He got a bit lost out in the middle of the track but then put his mind on the job. He will get over a bit further as a three year-old.
“He’s a big, leggy horse and is still a bit immature. Today’s win was just a bonus.”
White paid $9,500 to Darley for his dam Miss Carefree at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne March Sale. That looked money well spent when her Ad Valorem foal – later named Free Wheeling – came out and won the G2 Champagne Classic at Doomben and LR Hawkesbury Guineas for Sheikh Mohammed.
Miss Carefree was carrying a PPT to Henny Hughes at the Melbourne Sale and that foal was later named Landau. He has won two races at Benalla for a partnership managed by White and resumes from a four month spell at Kilmore on Tuesday.
After Easy Drama, she foaled a filly by Canford Cliffs and was then bred back to Swettenham Stud shuttler Americain last year.
White imported Street Cry sire Globetrotter (USA) to Australia in 2010. A Group 3 winner in Canada and Group 1 placed at Santa Anita, he stands for a $6,600 (inc gst) service fee at Brackley Park in Avenel.
