Someone forgot to tell Big Bad Baggins he wasn’t supposed to win the XXXX Maiden (1300m) at Northam on Thursday.
Big Bad Baggins blew like the proverbial gale before his first start although the untapped 3yo son of God Has Spoken was none the wiser in running. Kept honest in front by Le Juna (Merchant Navy), the big bloke kept giving in the straight to make a mockery of a $10 to $26 fluctuation.
He held off Venturo (More Than Ready) and that made it worse for punters who anchored the odds-on favourite but at least he won’t be bumping into Big Bad Baggins again anytime soon. “We’re being patient and ‘Baggins’ is going back out to the paddock,” trainer Ryan Hill reported.
“He’s shown plenty of ability at home and I said he would either win today or run last and pull up shin-sore. He’s looks to have a bright future and can come back a more mature galloper next season.
Big Bad Baggins was bred by Helen Harding and is raced by her son and daughter Colin and Kaitlyn. His dam Carob (So Secret) was bred by Rangeview Stud to win 7 races at home in Esperance and on the Goldfields.
God Has Spoken flag-bearer Ghost Who Walks is back in harness for his latest campaign with trainer Neville Parnham. Now a rising 7yo, he defeated Nerodio in a Belmont barrier trial on Monday and will defend his LR Beaufine Stakes crown at Belmont on July 13.
Ghost Who Walks has earned over $560,000 for Cockatoo Ridge owner-breeder Colin Loxton who also bred and raced God Has Spoken and his younger brother Playing God. His dam Death Knock (Lonhro) was sold for $45,000 to Troy Corstens at an Inglis Digital Sale last year and she has a yearling colt by Playing God and a filly foal by Splintex.
God Has Spoken (Blackfriars) stands at Rivercrest Park for a $3,300 (inc GST) service fee and studmaster Steve Hoare can be contacted for bookings and further information on (08) 9727 3894 or 0409 987 970.
