Spirit Of Boom has towered over the Top 10 leader-board at the Magic Millions March Yearling Sale with 9 fillies and 1 colt selling between $430,000 and $220,000.

Eureka Stud’s boom first-season sire was instrumental in huge gains during the Gold Coast Sale that concluded on Tuesday. Turnover leaped 59% to more than $13.82 million, the average sky-rocketed 60% to $45,464 and the median improved 19% to $25,000.

Craig Rounsefell’s Boomer Bloodstock led the way for Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia (FBAA) with the sale-topper – a Spirit of Boom filly from Hidden Flair (Hidden Dragon) for $430,000. She is a three-quarter sister to Flamenco (LR Calaway Gal Stakes).

Rounsefell also bought a Spirit Of Boom – Eureka Moment filly for $300,000. She is from a winning General Nediym daughter of Kapsdan (G2 NZ Wakeful Challenge).

Both fillies will be prepared by Spirit Of Boom’s trainer Tony Gollan. “I’m a proud Queenslander and we have been waiting a long time for a stallion like Spirit Of Boom,” Rounsefell said. “Both fillies look early types from running families. They were at the upper end our values but that’s the market and we didn’t want to go home without them.

“We have loaded up on I Am Invincible yearlings over the past couple of years and intend to do the same with Spirit of Boom.”

Blue Sky Bloodstock (FBAA) agent Julian Blaxland paid $170,000 for a Spirit of Boom – Military Bride filly in conjunction with trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. The dam is also by General Nediym and was an Eagle Farm juvenile winner for Rex Lipp.

Another Blue Sky purchase heading to Tulloch Lodge is the Spirit Of Boom filly out of Mimi Magic that cost $80,000. Both fillies were offered by Eureuka Stud’s Colin McAlpine who will announce his stallion’s 2018 fee in the next fortnight.

“Spirit Of Boom is a national horse now going on the money he has made at this sale, in Adelaide and at the Sydney Classic Sale,” he said. “The investment out of the southern states to buy these yearlings is something I only dreamed would happen.”

McAlpine set Spirit of Boom’s services at $11,000 when he retired to stud after a Group 1 victories in the 2014 William Reid Stake and Doomben 10,000. The sky’s the limit for a massive fee increase if his colt Ef Troop wins the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes this Saturday.

Elsewhere at the Gold Coast March Sale, Pinhook Bloodstock (FBAA) agent Dave Mee bought colts by Falvelon ($145,000) and Deep Field ($140,000) on behalf of trainer Tony Sears.

The Deep Field colt is from USA-bred stakes winner Hadavision. His older half-brother Choivision won at the Sunshine Coast for trainer Liam Birchley and he’s on a hat-trick in Macau after recent victories over 1500m.

Premium Bloodstock’s Grant Burns filled out the FBAA spend with $50,000 for a Poet’s Voice – Rosalita colt from Oaklands Stud. His 2yo half-brother Wicked Dancer jumped the juvenile gun with a Townsville win in December.
