Born to Rock set for Salinger Stakes

Trainer Michael Moroney will set Born to Rock for a home-track victory in the G2 Salinger Stakes on the first day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

The Flemington based mare was a first-up winner of the Ascend Sales Trophies Hcp (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night.  “She’s a stronger mare this time around and we’re keen on the Salinger,” Moroney said.  “We will keep her at sprinting trips and possibly go further in the autumn.”

Born to Rock (4m Fastnet Rock – Call Me Pretty by Peaks And Valleys) was purchased for $210,000 from the draft of Yarraman Park at the 2008 Magic Millions National weanling sale.

She was a Listed winner of the Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich in June and signed off her winter campaign with an eye catching third in the G1 Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm.

Her sire Fastnet Rock has been enjoying great success this season.  The Coolmore champion’s recent stakes winners include Smart Missile, Gybe, Lone Rock, Mosheen and Atlantic Jewel.

Born to Rock is an older sister to Cindarockinrella.  The Tim Martin trained filly defeated Disputes at Scone in May before earning black-type with a Listed placing in The Phoenix at Doomben.

Their USA bred dam Call Me Pretty has foaled fillies by God’s Own and Magnus in the last two years.
