Iffraaj continued his record-breaking year in Europe when Dunmore Boy won the Betdaq Nursery at Wolverhampton on Friday. It increased his first-season individual winner total to 37 so far this year.
Dunmore Boy (2c Iffraaj – Night Club by Mozart) was always prominent and was ridden out to win by a length from Misty Morn (Cadeaux Genereux). He had been placed on debut at Hamilton in June but took 10 starts to finally break through.
Invincible Spirit (35) held the old record for a first-season sire set in 2006 but Iffraaj eclipsed that mark when Dixlesio made it 36 winners in Madrid last Sunday, November 21.
Dunmore Boy is from a half-sister to French 1000 Guineas winner Danseuse Du Soir (Thatching). He was a 28,000 euros buy at the Goffs yearling sale in September 2009.
Iffraaj (Zafonic) stands at Darley’s Kildangan Stud in Ireland and shuttles to Haunui Farm in New Zealand. His European first-crop flag-bearer is unbeaten G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner Wootton Bassett.
Iffraaj has 11 lots from his first southern crop catalogued for the 2001 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale. It’s the largest consignment of any first season sire at Karaka and includes a half-brother to G1 winner Zabrasive (Lot 256).
