Bradbury’s Luck leads first-season premiership

Glenlogan Park stallion Bradbury’s Luck took an early lead in the first season sires’ premiership (winners) when Elegance On Ice saluted at Rockhampton on Tuesday.  The locally trained filly was his second winner after Ringa Ringa Rosie scored at Doomben on Saturday.

Elegance On Ice (2f  Bradbury’s Luck – Piccotime by Piccolo) was always handy and ran her rivals ragged in the XXXX Bitter Hcp (1000m).  Rytarga (Conatus) ran home to reduce the winning margin to 1.5 lengths.

Elegance On Ice is raced by owner-breeder Dick Sullivan and is prepared by his wife Lyn at Callaghan Park.  The filly went under the hammer at this year’s Capricorn yearling sale but was bought back with a $5,000 vendor bid.  She is QTIS 600 qualified and banked $20,500 for connections on Tuesday.

The Sullivans won two juvenile events at Rocky with her dam Piccotime in 2002 and they’ve sent her to Bradbury’s Luck for the last three years.  The mare has a yearling filly by him and a colt on the ground that arrived on September 24.

Bradbury’s Luck (Redoute’s Choice) was trained by Graeme Rogerson and won the 2004 Listed AJC Canonbury Stakes and 2005 Magic Millions 2yo Classic from just a half dozen starts.

The Magic Millions is the immediate goal for Ringa Ringa Rosie who was most impressive on debut at Doomben.

Ringa Ringa Rosie (2f Bradbury’s Luck – La Guichet by Al Hareb) looked a stakes winner in waiting when she overcame difficulties to score an eye-catching victory in the DGL Australia QTIS 600 2YO Handicap (1030m) last Saturday.

“She’s a black-type filly,” trainer Bevan Laming predicted.  “She shows a lot of promise and we won’t see the best of her until she gets to 1200 or 1400 metres.  We will set her for the Magic Millions.”

Ringa Ringa Rosie was a $46,000 buy from the Emerald Thoroughbreds draft at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  She is raced in partnership by Laming’s wife Jennifer and collected $53,000 in QTIS bonuses and prizemoney.

Her dam La Guichet was raced by Glenlogan Park owner Jon Haseler and Rogerson.  She was a juvenile winner at Rosehill and is a half-sister to Dashing Eagle (Danehill) who was a G1 winner of the AJC Flight Stakes and VATC One Thousand Guineas.  Second dam La Caissiere (Luskin Star) won the G2 VRC Wakeful Stakes and the AJC Flight Stakes when it was a G2 event.

Glenlogan Park manager Steve Morley was suitably impressed with Ringa Ringa Rosie at Doomben.  “It was a remarkable performance,” he said.  “Very few horses win from outside barriers at the Doomben 1000m start.  To produce such a strong finishing burst in the straight was incredible.”
Morley predicted better things to come from Bradbury’s Luck.  “We’re really excited about how the future is shaping up,” Morley explained.  “His second crop yearlings are outstanding and many of them are entered for the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast in January.”

Morley mentioned colts from the Geiger Counter mares Sandy Darling and Spectroscope as being standouts while a filly out of Belvedere (Octagonal) also rates highly.

Sandy Darling is the dam of G1 SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Irish Darling (Ivory’s Irish) while Spectroscope has foaled city winners Starsplash (Galileo) and Silver Spur (Flying Spur).  The latter was beaten a nose by It’llbefantastic in the Listed VRC Hilton Stakes at Flemington last Saturday.

Bradburys Luck was on the fourth line of betting at $8 when sportingbet.com.au opened its market for Australia’s first season sires’ premiership in the winners category.  He was still available at that quote after Elegance On Ice won yesterday.  Bradbury’s Luck has 102 live foals from his first crop.
