Darley Victoria resident Brazen Beau topped first-crop stallions with mares in foal at the Magic Millions National Sale.
He had 8 mares carrying positives and they averaged $253,750 off an initial $44,000 service fee last year. He achieved similar figures at the Inglis Sale in Sydney last month with four mares in foal averaging $276,250.
His Gold Coast leader was Pretty Penny (Encosta de Lago) who sold to agent Colm Santry for $570,000. A rising 16 year-old, she has a perfect record at stud highlighted by Victorian Group winners Sertorius and Clifton Red.
“She is an older mare but she has four black type horses from her first four foals and I didn’t think there was a better broodmare in the sale,” Santry said. “She’s a magnificent looker and everything out of her has sold very well in the sale ring.”
Brazen Beau covered an outstanding book of 139 mares first-up after a career highlighted by Group 1 wins in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and Newmarket Hcp. Sheikh Mohammed bought him for a reported $10 million between those straight-course victories at Flemington.
Brazen Beau (I Am Invincible) will stand at Northwood Park for $44,000 (inc gst) again this year. Currently, that’s the most expensive service fee in Victoria for 2016.
