Amelia Park owner Peter Walsh led WA buyers at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale this week when he purchased Dance Music for $500,000.
Dance Music was sold with a PPT off a maiden cover to G1 Golden Slipper Stakes winner Star Inside (Redoute’s Choice). “I was very happy with the purchase after being under-bidder on a couple of mares,” Walsh said at the Gold Coast on Wednesday. “She’s booked into Blue Point (Ire) at Darley Victoria.”
Walsh sold a Blue Point (Shamardal) half-brother to Amelia’s Jewel for $900,000 to Victorian-based Rosemont Stud at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January.
Dance Music is a 7yo daughter of Yarradale Stud sire War Chant (USA) and she retired following black-type victories in the 2018 Placid Ark Stakes, 2020 Northam Cup & Starstruck Classic and 2021 La Trice Classic & Northerly Stakes.
Walsh was determined to buy her after missing out on Miss Conteki and Miss Contessa in consecutive lots on Tuesday. He raced Miss Conteki (Eurozone) in partnership with Mark Chadwick and she won to Group 3 level earlier this season in the Prince Of Wales Stakes at Ascot.
Corumbene Stud’s George Altomonte bought Miss Conteki for $700,000. Miss Contessa (Fr) is a Camelot (GB) half-sister to Gulfstream Park Stakes winner Junipermarshmallow (Quality Road) and she made $210,000 to UK-based Blue Diamond Stud.
WA breeders bought 20 mares on the Gold Coast including Brent & Clive Atwell from Darling View Thoroughbreds who spent $350,000 on Vanilla Sky (All Too Hard), Stellaris (Bernardini) and Joy of Joys (More Than Ready).
Forest View Farm’s Ben & Jo Duncan outlaid $290,000 on Deviate (Not a Single Doubt), Gridelin (New Approach) and Keltara (Exceed and Excel).
Elvira Park’s David Moore paid $100,000 for Tommy Blue (Gingerbread Man) in foal to Too darn Hot (GB). She won at Ascot and Morphettville and also earned black-type when runner-up in the 2020 Magic Millions 3YO Trophy at Pinjarra.
The other WA-bound mare to make six-figures was Royal Expectations (Exceed and Excel). She is a full-sister to G2 VRC Danehill Stakes winner Kinglike and was purchased by Balmoral Park owner Neil Irvine for $100,000 in foal to Pinatubo (Ire).
