Amelia Park completed a successful sale at the Gold Coast Magic Millions this week with the brother to Amelia’s Jewel (Lot 234) selling for $625,000 on Tuesday and the Russian Revolution filly from its star mare Lady Cosmology (Lot 580) making $230,000 on Thursday.
The Siyouni (Fr) full-brother to Amelia’s Jewel is destined for a racing career in Perth with local trainer Luke Fernie. “I thought he would go for a million dollars,” Fernie admitted. “The prices paid today were lower than I expected but it was still pretty stressful. The most I’ve ever paid before is $390,000.
“He’s a nice horse and I’ve always had a soft spot for the dam Bumbasina. We will let him grow and have a crack when he’s tells us he’s ready.”
The colt was conceived to southern-hemisphere time in France before being sent out here with his dam in February 2024. Bumbasina foaled a Siyouni filly in September before being bred back to Zoustar.
Amelia’s Jewel was last seen finishing a courageous fifth to Mr Brightside (NZ) in a star-studded field assembled for the G1 VRC Cantala Stakes (1600m) at Flemington in November. She returned to pre-training with Matt Vella at Hawkesbury ahead of an autumn campaign at the Warwick Farm stables of Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald.
Her yearling brother was sold by Segenhoe Stud (as agent) and studmaster Peter O’Brien was also tasked with prepping the Russian Revolution – Lady Cosmology filly in the Hunter Valley.
Amelia Park owner Peter Walsh predicted the filly would capture the eye and also get the heart pumping on Thursday. “She is her mum’s daughter this filly and Lady Cosmology was so loved and admired for not only her ability but her tenacious attitude on the track.”
McEvoy Mitchell Racing and agent Damon Gabbedy (Belmont Bloodstock) signalled the winning bid and they were thrilled to get her for $230,000. “She’s a gorgeous Russian Revolution filly and will race for a Ladies Syndicate,” Tony McEvoy reported. “She’s a precocious type and will be targeted at the Magic Millions Ladies Bonus.
“She looks a sharp, forward girl much like her high-class mother with speed to burn.”
Amelia Park enjoyed another successful Ascot carnival with a highlight being its $140,000 Magic Millions graduate In Good Order (American Pharoah) winning the G2 Ted van Heemst Stakes (2100m) to advance his earnings to $400,000.
Amelia’s Jewel’s younger half-brother Bosustow (Blue Point) can add more black-type to the family’s pedigree in the RL Magic Millions 3yo Guineas (1400m) on Saturday. He has opened at $17 for the $3 million sales-related race on the Gold Coast.
