Trainer Scott Brunton has taken a shine to Vinery sire Pluck (USA) and it’s paid dividends a second time with promising 2yo filly Lady Pluck.
Brunton sourced Pluck’s last-start Vamos Stakes Gr.3 winner Life On The Wire at the 2015 Adelaide Magic Millions and he returned to buy Lady Pluck at the same sale last year.
Lady Pluck (2f Pluck – Deelites by Excites) looks an exciting prospect for the stable after dead-heating for second on debut in the Gold Sovereign Stakes LR in Launceston on Wednesday. She loomed up to the leaders at the furlong only to be bloused out by longshot winner Tiesto.
“That was enormous…she was up against some quality two year-olds,” Brunton said. “We threw her in at the deep end and the owners are very happy.
“We know she will improve on whatever she did tonight. She will possibly go for a break now and we’re looking forward to seeing her progress next prep.”
Pluck has upgraded Lady Pluck’s pedigree. Her dam Deelites won twice in the bush for Parkes trainer George Wright and the previous black-type in the family goes back to 2000 San Domenico Stakes Gr.2 winner Zariz.
Life On The Wire ran fourth first-up in the 2016 Gold Sovereign and the Vamos Stakes victory improved her record to 7 wins in 13 starts for $255,000 in prizemoney. Brunton is planning another trip back to Melbourne to improve her current winning streak of five in a row.
Pluck (More Than Ready) has a filly from Spurcross (Mossman) catalogued as Lot 207 by Baramul Stud at the Adelaide Magic Millions on March 13.
