Hungarian champion Overdose extended his unbeaten record to 14 from 14 at Bratislava on Sunday.  He won the Listed Bestens-Pannonia Eletbiztosito Di (1000m) by 10 lengths clocking 56.40s down the straight course at Kincsem Park.  

Nicknamed the Budapest Bullet, Overdose had been off the scene since a record-breaking victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix in April 2009  Ridden by Christophe Soumillon, Overdose completed 1000m in a blistering 54.60s despite losing a shoe in the run.  He pulled up lame and missed a Royal Ascot showdown with Scenic Blast.

Overdose showed no ill effects of any hoof problems in his comeback.  “His action was better,” said English jockey Gary Hind.  “He is a unique horse and his time was very good considering the ground.

Overdose (5h Starborough – Our Poppet by Warning) runs in the colours of the Hungarian national flag and has a huge following in his home country.  He is trained by Sandor Ribarszki for owner Zoltan Mikoczy who bought him for just 2,000gns at the Tattersalls Yearling Sale in December 2006.

Overdose reached what would have been a career high in the 2008 G1 Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp but a bizarre turn of events saw him go home to Hungary empty-handed.  He blitzed the field in France’s premier sprint but the race was declared void because of a false start.

The majority of the field pulled up but not Overdose.  He did not contest the re-run after the last race but his time was faster than that recorded by the official winner Marchand D’Or.

Overdose was bred in Nottinghamshire and sold cheaply as a yearling.  His dam Our Poppet has a 2yo filly by Bertolini, a yearling filly by Clodovil and she was due to foal to Exceed And Excel this year.

Owner Zoltan Mikoczy confirmed that Overdose will head for the G2 Goldene Peitsche at Baden-Baden on August 29.  He won that race two years ago.
