Class mare Tick Tick Bloom is the toast of the south-west after winning the LR Bunbury Cup (2200m) on Thursday.
The daughter of Oakland Park stallion Viscount started a $2.40 favourite after a last-start victory in the AHA Cup at Bunbury. She completed the feature double by a long-head from Global Flirt (McFlirt) and Cyber Crime (Success Express).
Tick Tick Bloom (4m Viscount – Eight Roses by Bellotto) won last year’s LR Belmont Guineas (1600m) and LR Belmont Oaks (2000m) and the latest pay-day increased her bank account to $452,915.
“I was happy to let her run her own race,” jockey William Pike said. “She relaxes and sits out the back and minds her own business before powering home.”
Tick Tick Bloom is from a half-sister to 1995 Perth Cup winner Ros Reef and is trained by Adam Durrant for a syndicate that includes breeder Dan Palmateer and work colleagues based in Leinster. “I’m just lucky to be involved with a horse which has a fair bit of margin for error,” Durrant said. “She makes us all look good.”
The mare’s next assignment will be the LR Pinjarra Cup (2300m) worth $120,000 on Sunday, March 29.
