Hay List’s owner Terry Davenport was in a buoyant mood this week discussing a possible return clash with Black Caviar in Brisbane.

Davenport is also looking forward to next Monday when Hay List’s younger half-brother Sound Of The Ocean will step out in a Wyong barrier trial over 800 metres.

Sound Of The Ocean (3g Delzao – Sing Hallelujah by Is It True) is trained by John McNair and has taken more time to develop than Hay List.   “He will be more of a distance horse but looks very promising,” Davenport told the West Australian newspaper this week.  “He’s magnificently conformed and certainly looks the part.”

His sire Delzao stands at Manner Lodge at Rochester in Victoria.  His oldest are four year-olds and to date there have been just 21 winners at a 32% strike-rate.  

The Davenports will be hoping Sound Of The Ocean will help lift Delzao’s profile.  They also have a yearling half-sister to Hay List by the same sire.

Terry Davenport and his wife Liz have developed the family from Marscay mare Pucesca.  She was tailed off in both starts at Bunbury in February 1991 before being whisked off to stud.

Sing Hallelujah arrived in 1996 and, after winning four races at Belmont, she was retired and sent to Victoria.

Statue Of Liberty was an inspired choice.  A Storm Cat sire, he was raced by Coolmore and was a Group 3 winner of the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.  

He was initially based at Blue Gum Farm before transferring to Eliza Park.  Beside Hay List, his Australian stakes winners include Mic Mac, Tempest Tost, Elysees, Dan Baroness and Broadway Harmony.

Sing Hallelujah foaled a brother to Hay List in September and was bred back to Statue Of Liberty with positive results in November.
