A rush of winners in the last month has Burnewang North owner Cathy Hains in a positive frame of mind leading up to the Gold Coast Magic Millions.
“We’ve had 7 individual winners including a double at Echuca on New Year’s Eve,” Hains said from the Gold Coast. “It’s a lovely run of results for a young stud such as ours and, importantly, they were all sold at auction.”
During December, the Victorian nursery’s winners included Unholy Allegiance (Holy Roman Emperor) in South Africa, The Life (Choisir) at Warwick Farm, Chelsea Hotel (Dylan Thomas) in Canberra, Arizona Skies (Northern Meteor) on debut at Seymour and Bourgeois Babe (Stratum) in Queensland.
And, in a first for Burnewang North, the stud produced race-to-race winners at Echuca last Tuesday in the form of the promising Rich River (Choisir) and Inkjet Sprinter (Dash For Cash).
“Inkjet Sprinter has been knocking on the door so it was great to see him break through for Shaun Dwyer,” Hains said. “Rich River, who is with Darren Weir, was the first foal we bred out of the Zabeel mare Galleta and he won like a horse going places.
“Winning is the name of the game. Buyers want to see a strong track record behind a brand and trainers need to have confidence in your methods.
“We already have several black-type performers to our credit and are steadily upgrading what we breed and what we offer. We’re confident our big breakthrough horse is already in the system.
“After the Magic Millions, we have a large draft for the Inglis Melbourne Premier in March and also some nice horses for the VOBIS Gold Sale at the end of April,” Hains added. “The new VOBIS incentives should see VOBIS horses gather quite some momentum for those who race in Victoria.”
