Reckless Abandon has rolled to his third win in a row for Victoria’s Burnewang North at Doomben.
Trainer Liam Birchley’s opinion of Reckless Abandon has never wavered believing that, with a little bit of patience, he would mature into a more than handy horse. He travelled sweetly for stand-in rider Damian Browne on Saturday and kicked away at the furlong to complete a hat-trick from 1350m to 1640m.
“He’s really improving and has strengthened up this time in,” Birchley said. “He should get 2000m this prep and will go further in time.”
Reckless Abandon (Nicconi) has several black-type options with the Brisbane carnival commencing next week. He was bred by Burnewang North and was part of its consignment at the 2013 Gold Coast Magic Millions making $150,000 to a big syndicate based in the Sunshine State.
His dam Apologies (Giant’s Causeway) comes from the “Leica” family and was a $240,000 Coolmore Stud graduate from the 2005 Easter yearling sale. She won a Balaklava maiden for David Hayes and Limerick Lane’s Gerry Ryan before retiring to stud.
Apologies has also thrown minor winners by Bel Esprit and Kaphero. Now owned by Tatura based Jelle-Jac Farm studmaster Bill Kingsbury, she has a yearling colt by Americain and a colt on the ground by Kaphero.
