Cape Blanco retired by Ballydoyle

Coolmore has announced So You Think could race on next year, however, Cape Blanco has been retired after fracturing a knee while winning the G1 Joe Hirsch Classic at Belmont Park on Saturday.

Racing manager Tom Magnier maintained So You Think has plenty to offer after finishing fourth behind Danedream in the Arc de Triomphe.  “Aidan (O’Brien) thinks there’s a lot left in the tank.  The Arc didn’t go our way and we want to keep showing the world what he can do.”

So You Think (High Chaparral) has the option of running in the English Champion Stakes later this month or the Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs in November.

Cape Blanco retires with an unbeaten record in North America.  The Joe Hirsch Turf Classic followed G1 victories in the Man o’ War Stakes at Belmont and Arlington Million in Chicago.

Cape Blanco (Galileo) won the Irish Derby and Irish Champion last year before his G1 treble in the United States.  “We’re sad to see him leave Ballydoyle,” Aidan O’Brien said.  “He had a tremendous attitude to racing and was extremely talented and courageous.”

Dubai businessman Jim Hay bought a share in the colt earlier this year from Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and John Magnier.

Coolmore will announce stud plans for Cape Blanco at a later date.
