Capitalist has firmed into an odds-on favourite for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic after cruising to victory in his final lead-up on Thursday.
An awesome son of Woodside Park sire Written Tycoon, he was always travelling like a winner in the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions and was eased down to score by nearly three lengths. Bookmakers have firmed him into a red-hot $1.90 market-leader to become a millionaire at the Gold Coast on January 9.
Capitalist is unbeaten following a hollow win on debut in the LR Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Randwick in October and trainer Peter Snowden is looking forward to the Gold Coast. “He’s very professional and has a great attitude – he can sit forward or settle back – although he did get a bit keen on the corner today.
“I told Blake (Shinn) to stay out of trouble and ride him like he was the best horse in the race. He had a perfect run and did everything right.”
Capitalist clocked 63.23s for 1100m to break the race-record held by Unencumbered. The 2013 winner then went on to complete the Wyong – Gold Coast Magic Millions Classic double.
“The sky’s the limit for a horse of his calibre,” Shinn predicted. “When they slackened the pace, he grabbed the bit but won with a fair bit in hand. He just oozes class and will have that x-factor on the Gold Coast.”
Capitalist (2c Written Tycoon – Kitalpha by Fusaichi Pegasus) descends from 1991 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Bold Promise and cost James Harron Bloodstock $165,000 at this year’s Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale.
Written Tycoon stands for a $19,800 (inc gst) fee at Woodside Park and is currently third on the Australian General sires’ premiership for winners (65) and wins (83) behind Not a Single Doubt and Fastnet Rock.
He will move into second-spot on the Australian 2YO sires’ premiership if his Doomben debut winner Dieters also stays unbeaten in the Hamilton Hotel QTIS Hcp (1110m) this Saturday. Dieters is currently quoted at $51 for the MM 2YO Classic.
