Caulfield Quest for Hussy

West Quest has won the last five Tasmanian sires’ premierships and he can claim another mainland feature when talented filly I’m A Hussy starts in the Listed Sportingbet Sprint Series Final at Caulfield on Saturday.

I’m A Hussy (6m West Quest – Vain Dane by Ladoni) won at Caulfield in August and was then beaten a nose in the G3 How Now Stakes back at The Heath on September 18.  She has won 7 times in 15 races and earned nearly $250,000 for trainers Dave and Scott Brunton.

West Quest is on a roll after his gelding Dream Pedlar scored a narrow victory in the $50,000 Gold Nugget at Ballarat on Wednesday.

Dream Pedlar (6g West Quest  Unamah by Top Avenger) captured the Listed Tasmanian Stakes last December and followed up with placings in the Hobart and Launceston Cups but the Gold Nugget was his first away win.

“He needed that to qualify for some of the good races coming up,” trainer Troy Blacker said.  “We will nominate him for the G3 Coongy Handicap on Caulfield Cup day.”

West Quest (Gone West) stands at Graeme McCulloch’s Grenville Stud in Tasmania and he has sired 222 winners at a 60.5% strike-rate.

McCulloch will have a strong draft of West Quest yearlings at the Tasmanian Magic Millions next February as well as the first crop of G2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Incumbent.

Armidale Stud will also offer a Ladoni half-brother to Dream Pedlar at the 2011 Tasmanian Magic Millions.  Ladoni is the sire of star mare Lady Lynette who has won over $500,000 for the Brunton family.
