Cavalry Charge at Rosehill

Arrowfield sire Charge Forward continued his strong run of success at Rosehill on Saturday when Cavalry Rose won the $250,000 Inglis Classic (1200m) on debut.

Cavalry Rose (2f Charge Forward – Albertson Rose by Danske) was bred by Grant Briscoe and she was purchased by Triple Crown Syndications for $85,000 at the 2011 Inglis Classic Sale.

The Gerald Ryan trained filly was spotting front-runner Diamond Earth an enormous lead in the straight but knuckled down to win running away by a half-neck.  They streeted the rest of the field by six lengths.

Cavalry Rose was green in the run but showed tremendous natural ability to take home $150,000 in cheques for connections.  Triple Crown also achieved notable success with Arrowfield-sired G2 winners Hot Snitzel and Flying Snitzel last year.

“She was all over the shop,” trainer Gerald Ryan said as Cavalry Rose returned to scale.  “She just had two jump outs and one trial leading into the race.  There’s lots of natural improvement in her.”

Cavalry Rose hails from the same New Zealand family as Alberton Park who also won at Rosehill on Saturday.  The family also includes Group winners Sir Alberton, Alberton Star, Lady Alberton and Te Akau Rose.

These horses were bred by the Kerr-Taylor family whose beautiful ancestral home Alberton, built in 1863 in Mount Albert, Auckland, was left to the New Zealand Historic Places Trust in 1972.

New Zealand was the scene of another winner by Charge Forward on Saturday when Andromache (ex Mythical Play by Defensive Play) scored handsomely at Pukekohe.

Charge Forward’s international scorecard continues to build this month through recent winners Gaston (ex Capto by Octagonal) in NZ and Best Eleven (ex Betsy Pie by Redoute’s Choice) in Hong Kong.

Charge Forward retired to Arrowfield in 2005 and there have been 80 winners of 156 races at a 54% strike-rate in his first three crops.

Cavalry Rose is from Charge Forward’s fourth crop and the Inglis Classic purse helped him join fellow Arrowfield sires Redoute’s Choice and Snitzel in the Top 10 of the Australian 2yo sires’ premiership.

Charge Forward has three lots catalogued for the 2012 Inglis Classic Sale starting on Sunday – a filly out of Dame de Paree and colts from Lady of Choice and Miss Kariba.
