God’s Own became the second Victorian based sire – following Bel Esprit – to sire the winners of 100 races in Australia this season.

The Greta West stallion scored his century when the Robbie Griffiths trained gelding Va Hala won the Bariki Organics Maiden (1608m) at Ararat last Monday.

Va Hala (3g God’s Own – Va Tutto by Carnegie) was sent out favourite after a game fourth at Mornington when caught on the worse section of the course.  He jumped well for Dean Holland and shot clear in the final stages for a soft win.

“He’s only had the five starts so far and still has a bit to learn,” Holland said.  “There’s a lot of improvement to come– he’s a nice horse on the up.”

Bred by Princeton Thoroughbreds, Va Hala descends from G1 VRC Oaks winner Richfield Lady.

God’s Own continued his winning run with a total of 7 winners in as many days last week.  Following Va Hala, he sired Devout Diamond (Kilmore), Sacred Journey (Hawkesbury), Isaiah (Bendigo), Red Almighty (Pt Macquarie), Resurrect (Newcastle) and Maglia Rosa (Hobart).

Promising God’s Own filly Brook Road is due to return after a short break following a winning double at Randwick earlier this year.  Trained by Bart and James Cummings, she has been nominated for the G2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) at Randwick this Saturday.
