John Chalmers Bloodstock (FBAA) and Pearce Racing topped the Perth Magic Millions this week with an I Am Invincible colt that made $260,000.
The top-priced yearling was a highlight of the first auction conducted at the new Swan Valley complex following the move from Belmont Park racecourse. Magic Millions has been the sole thoroughbred auctioneering firm in WA since 1999.
Chalmers bought the I Am Invincible – Jestceny colt (Lot 66) from the Western Breeders Alliance consignment on Monday. He’s the last foal of Jestceny (Real Jester) and is a half-brother to five winners including Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic winner The River and stakes performers Jestpatim and Soundcheck.
“He’s a lovely colt and that’s what you’ve got to pay for an I Am Invincible,” co-trainer Ben Pearce said. “He’s very powerful and we’ve bought him for our loyal client Warren Martin.”
Chalmers and Pearce Racing also paid $75,000 for the Demerit full-brother to G3 Gimcrack Stakes winner Agent Pippa who has recently relocated to Melbourne.
Among the other dozen buys for Chalmers were colts by Charge Forward ($40k), Trade Fair ($35k) & Universal Ruler ($32.5k) and fillies by War Chant ($35k) & Trade Fair ($20k).
Mark Pilkington Management and Victorian trainer Andrew Noblet bought colts by Dundeel and Headwater for a combined $200,000. The Dundeel is from a half-sister to LR Widden Stakes winner Horizons and was also sourced from WBA.
Noblet struck gold at the 2014 Perth Magic Millions with a $45,000 bid for Silent Sedition. The War Chant filly won the G1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley for owner Tom Curnow and was on-sold to Japan as a breeding prospect for $1.50 million last year.
Group 1 Bloodstock’s Mathew Becker and trainer Lloyd Kennewell paid $100,000 for a Rubick colt related to Perth stakes winner Malibu Style and Belmont Bloodstock Agency bought a Foxwedge half-brother to G2 Queensland Guineas winner Salsonic for $90,000.
Boomer Bloodstock and trainer Lindsey Smith outlaid $120,000 on a Time For War colt at the Inglis Classic last week and they followed up with $140,000 for a Magnus colt from Dawson Stud in the Swan Valley. His dam Secret Mak (Lonhro) is a half-sister to G1 Railway Stakes winner Covertly.
Commercial Bloodstock’s Noel Carter targeted the first crop of I’m All The Talk buying two fillies and a colt by the newcomer from Mungrup Stud. The colt cost $35,000 and is bred to jump and run. His dam Princess Hallowell (Oratorio) won two early-season Ascot nurseries for trainer Trevor Andrews.
Carter was also keen on Yarradale Stud sire Gingerbread Man. He purchased two of them topped by the $50,000 colt from Miss Margene (Flying Spur) who is related to Group 1 winners Rogan Josh and Machine Gun Tom.
Book 1 of the Perth Magic Millions generated turnover of $6.82 million at a record average price of $64,981. But the clearance rate reflected a very selective buying bench – it plummeted to 77%.
