USA Champion 2yo Midshipman will make his seasonal debut at Belmont (NY) on Friday.  The Unbridled’s Song colt was owned by Stonerside Stable before his transfer to Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin stables last year.

Midshipman won the 2008 Del Mar Futurity (GI) and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (GI) at Santa Anita Park before wintering in Dubai.  He was being prepared for Kentucky Derby but a leg injury aborted his classic campaign.

Midshipman has been working at Belmont and Saratoga since July and will be ridden for the first time by Richard Migliore.

“Win or lose, it’s time for him to run,” said Rick Mettee, Godolphin assistant trainer who oversees the New York division . “We’ll have a fast track, which we thought was important.  It will be a good test for him.”

Midshipman is a son of 1995 BC Juvenile winner Unbridled’s Song and his dam Fleet Lady was a G2 winner of the La Canada and El Encino Stakes.  He is a half-brother to G2 winner Fast Cookie (Deputy Minister).
