Lynward Park manager Troy van Heemst has confirmed champion sire Bletchley Park has died following complications from colic. The Irish bred son of Caerleon was 22.
“He was like one of the family,” van Heemst said. “It was a great ride but his time had come.”
Bletchley Park has sired more individual winners than any other West Australian based sire. Long-time Karendale Stud resident Jevington held the record with 309 but he was overhauled in 2009.
Bletchley Park has now sired 371 individual winners of 1194 races worldwide at a 62% strike rate. He was originally imported to Western Australia by Graham and Chris Daws in 1993 and stood at Dawson Stud until relocating to Lynward Park at Bullsbrook in 2001.
He was trained by Richard Hannon to win the Listed Sirenia Stakes at Kempton Park at two and he returned at three to win at Haydock before retiring after just 11 starts.
His dam Enigma (Ahonoora) also foaled high-class sprinter Shalford who shuttled to Australia before relocating to South Africa. Enigma’s sister Princess Tracy is the second dam of Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy.
Bletchley Park has sired 26 stakes winner of 55 stakes races to date headed by G1 winners Hot Jules (West Australian Derby) and Modem (WATC Fruit ‘N’ Veg Stakes & Railway Stakes).
