Chatswood Stud received another update to its Adelaide Magic Millions draft after Zedi Knight scored a barrier-to-box victory in the Somerton Hcp (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
It was Zedi Knight’s second win in a $100,000 event following the Listed Hareeba Stakes at Mornington on February 16.
Chatswood Stud’s Greg Willis will offer his yearling half-sister by Flying Spur sire Primus as Lot 105 at the Adelaide Magic Millions on March 15.
Zedi Knight (6g Zeditave – Sly Sandra by Sealed Bid) defeated Launay at Mornington and the Darley gelding franked the form with an outstanding win at Flemington on Saturday.
Zedi Knight is trained by Brendan McCarthy and the lightly raced gelding has now won 8 times in 25 starts for $368,000 in prizemoney. He was a $35,000 buy from Chatswood Stud at the 2006 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.
The Caulfield based sprinter is one of three winners for Listed VRC Matriarch Stakes winner Sly Sandra. Her Primus filly is a most attractive individual according the Magic Millions spokesman Tim Brown. “She has good size and scope and looks a nice type,” Brown reported. “Her sire Primus can produce a lovely type and this filly is a good example of his stock.”
Primus has his first crop two years-olds ready to make an impact in the second half of this season. The Flying Spur sireline is already up and running with Glenlogan Park sire Jet Spur while Yarradale Stud stallion Heritage is also among the winners in Western Australia.
Primus completes a full circle for Chatswood. Flying Spur stood his first season at the Seymour stud by arrangement with Arrowfield owner John Messara before returning to the Hunter Valley. “We kicked off Flying Spur’s stud career, so the sireline is very close to our hearts,” Willis explained. “Primus was top class and offers speed and durability in his pedigree.”
Primus was a G3 winner of the AJC Tramway Hcp at Randwick and he added Listed victories in the AJC Ming Dynasty Stakes and AJC Show County Stakes. He was also G1 placed in the Caulfield Guineas, Randwick Guineas and Rosehill Guineas.
Chatswood’s draft for the Adelaide Magic Millions also includes a Rakti half sister to G1 winner Above Deck who will kick-start the sale as Lot 1.
