In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Chile on Saturday, the South American Gran Premio Latinoamericano has been postponed until March 21.
The South American version of the Breeders’ Cup was scheduled to be staged for the third time at Club Hipico de Santiago in Chile on March 7.
A final decision on the immediate future of the continental championship is expected to be announced later this week when racing authorities meet in Santiago to discuss the full scope of the situation.
Two racetracks in downtown Santiago and another located in the coastal town of Vina del Mar suffered considerable structural damage. The catastrophe killed at least one horse stabled at Club Hipico de Santiago.
