Christmas Stakes present for Karacatis

Adelaide raider Karacatis caned Melbourne’s home-town sprinters in the LR Christmas Stakes (1200m) on Thursday.

Karacatis (5g Hussonet – One In A Million by Redoute’s Choice) scored a barrier-to-box victory for trainer Richard Jolly.  He free-wheeled in front and lasted long enough to defeat Richie’s Vibe and Kneeling in a three-way photo.

“The more they came at him, the more he kept pulling out extra,” winning jockey Damian Lane said.  “Richard is a very good trainer and when he sends them over, they are here for a reason.”

Jolly paid $120,000 for Karacatis from the Amarina Farm draft at the 2010 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.  He is the second foal of Group 2 placed mare One In A Million and has now earned over $283,000.

One In A Million is also the dam of LR Qld Australia Post Stakes winner Shamillion (Shamardal).  The mare is owned by Gerry Fischl of Coral View Lodge and she has an unraced 3yo filly named Ring Da Belle (Sebring) and a 2yo colt named Rain Or Shine (Manhattan Rain).

Winning sire Hussonet (USA) is now based at Cornerstone Stud in South Australia.  Initially at stud in South America, he transferred to Arrowfield Stud in 2003 and was Champion Australian sire in 2007-08.
