Class act returns at Ruakaka

Champion NZ colt Antonio Lombardo steps out for the first time this season in the Listed Northland Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Ruakaka on Saturday.

Antonio Lombardo (3c Pins – Petit Verdot by Carnegie) is the class act of the field and trainer Peter McKay is looking forward to the colt’s upcoming campaign after last season’s near misses.

“He won three races and was very close in a couple of big ones,” Mckay said.  “It could have been an awesome season.”

The Pins colt was beaten a nose in the Karaka Million and G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes.  “He’s strengthened up a lot and if he produces an “A” Game will be very hard to bowl over.”

Another quality entrant is the Donna Logan trained Sir Lovesalot (Darci Brahma).  He is coming off an impressive win at Ruakaka and Logan is very happy with his progress.

Logan is also satisfied with the progress of his stablemate Perfect Katch (Perfectly Ready).  “This race was always been on her agenda.  And being a filly, some black type will be to her advantage.”
