Cuanzo is the latest Oratorio to present his credentials for the G2 WA Guineas on November 22.

Trainer Eric Wake’s emerging three year-old took advantage of a rails run to defeat hot-favourite Shengmu in the Seacorp Hcp (1100m) at Ascot on Saturday.  He was backing up a week after a creditable third in the LR Belgravia Stakes.

“I was happy after the Belgravia and decided to start him again today because it would have meant a three week break until the Fairetha Stakes,” Wake said.  “I was worried when he was boxed in at the back of the field but then the gap appeared and he really fought out the finish.”

Cuanzo (3g Oratorio – Geigerita by Geiger Counter) is a homebred for Lex and Shirley Piper and is from an unraced half-sister to top-class Hong Kong sprinter Town of Fionn (Snippets).  They also race his older brother Geiger Rio with clients of trainer David Harrison.

Champion Mungrup Stud stallion Oratorio has Outlaw Pete on the front-line for the WA Guineas after an impressive last-start victory at Ascot.  He is another heading for a final warm-up in the Fairetha Stakes (1400m) on November 8.

Oratorio’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Cadenza also holds an entry for the WA Guineas (1600m).  She returned from a winter spell to finish within a length of Cuanzo on Saturday.

Mungrup Stud owners Gray and Jan Williamson and the Pipers have been involved in five WA Guineas winners since star filly Kalatiara (Metal Storm) was successful in 2000.  She was followed by Dr John – 2004 (Dr Johnson), Vain Crusader – 2006 (Kenvain), Moccasin Bend – 2008 (Eternity Range) and Clueless Angel – 2009 (Oratorio).
