Close relation to Zenyatta at Magic Millions National Sale

Mountcat, a half-sister to the dam of Champion mare Zenyatta, will be one of the highlights at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in June.

Mountcat (Mountain Cat – For the Flag by Forli) is an 11 year-old USA bred mare being offered as part of the Glenmore Park Stud dispersal on the Gold Coast.  She is a half-sister to 10 winners including Vertigineux (Kris S) who was named 2009 USA Broodmare of the Year thanks to the exploits of her daughter Zenyatta.

Vertigineux has also foaled G1 Santa Anita Oaks winner Balance (Thunder Gulch) and LR Remington Park Oaks winner Where’s Bailey (Aljabr).

Zenyatta (Street Cry) extended her undefeated record to 16 with a runaway victory in the G1 Apple Blossom Invitational at Oaklawn Park last Friday.

Mountcat has foaled three French winners to date – Mount Bay (Alamo Bay), Ringcat (Bering) and To Much Fun (Act One).   She has a 2yo colt by Dansili and a yearling filly by Bernardini.

She will be offered in foal to Street Sense – a Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup winning son of Zenyatta’s sire Street Cry.  “What an incredible opportunity to buy a mare carrying such a close relation to one of the greatest mares the world has ever seen,” Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester commented.

“Opportunities like this don’t come up often – but as we’ve told everybody already – this year’s National Broodmare Sale is packed with quality.”

Chester said the three stakes winning mares in foal to Medaglia d’Oro, the sire of Rachel Alexandra, will also attract plenty of attention.  “We all know Medaglia d’Oro is coming to stand at Darley in the Hunter Valley this spring – but these mares will give Australian breeders a head start with one of the world’s hottest sires.”
