Queensland has suffered two severe body-blows with the deaths of Hotel Grand and All Bar One. Both young sires succumbed to colic.
Hotel Grand (Grand Lodge) stood at Racetree and his death comes a year after the Innisplain stud lost Top Marc (Canadian Silver) to a heart attack.
Hotel Grand was a Group 1 winner of the AJC Spring Champion Stakes and Randwick Guineas before retiring to stud in 2007. There have been 10 winners from his first crop and the Mick Nolan trained filly Never Despair opened his second crop account at Eagle Farm in October.
All Bar One (Hennessy) started his stud career with 8 individual winners in 2010-11. That earned him top spot in the Australian first-crop winners’ category alongside Red Dazzler and Darley sires Ad Valorem and Nadeem.
The Oaklands Stud sire was a G2 winner of the Sir Byrne Hart Stakes at Eagle Farm for Hoss and Gillian Heinrich and retired to stud for a $7,700 service fee.
