Consistent Kencella wins at Warwick Farm

Kencella continued his consistent form for Perth owner-breeders Lex and Shirley Piper at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

The John O’Shea-trained gelding has won three times in four starts and he came to town for a front-running victory in the Big Brown @ Vinery Hcp (1000m) after earlier wins at Goulburn and Wyong.

Kencella (4g Exceed And Excel – Kentiara by Metal Storm) appreciated the 3kg claim and a heady ride from stable apprentice Lester Grace on the Slow 7 surface.  “He showed plenty of initiative to keep the horse well away from the fence in the better part of the ground,” O’Shea said.  “It was a good win – he’s got a lovely galloping action – and will be better suited getting over longer than 1000 metres”

Kencella from Perth stakes winner Kentiara who foaled a Mossman filly in August.

Her older sister Kalatiara had been a Group 2 winner of the WA Guineas for the Pipers before transferring off-shore to win the G3 Royal Heroine Stakes at Hollywood Park.

Another sister – Lacienne – foaled Guest Wing (Right Wing).  He carried the couple’s orange, red colours to victory in the 2011 Perth Cup.
