Alwyn Park stallion Trade Fair was represented by his 8th stakes winner when Cool Trade scored a record-breaking victory in the LR Scenic Blast Stakes (1100m) at Ascot last Saturday.
Cool Trade (4m Trade Fair – Around Jindabyne by Akhenaton) improved her strike-rate to 7 wins in 14 starts for trainer Alan Mathews. She raced keenly in the early and middle stages but was still going strong on line to defeat Shining Knight while creating a new race-record of 63.63s.
“She’s back to her best after hoof problems,” Mathews said. “The Miss Andretti Stakes in a fortnight will be her final start before a spell. The Trade Fairs need to be managed properly but once you get the basics right they eat well, work well and try hard.”
Cool Trade was bred by Norm and Jeannine Burren at Clare Downs Stud in the Porongurups. She cost a mere $15,000 at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions.
Trade Fair gelding Trading Day was beaten five lengths in Scenic Blast Stakes but was unable to obtain a clear run in the straight. Part-owner and trainer Warren Wilson has decided against backing him up in the $100,000 Mungrup Stud Sprint at Mt Barker (1300m) this Sunday.
There are 7 yearlings by Trade Fair catalogued for the upcoming Perth Magic Millions. Among them is the Bellbridge Park colt (Lot 386) who is from a half-sister to the dam of Shining Knight.
Trade Fair (Zafonic) covered a career-high 121 mares by the end of November at Alwyn Park last year.
