Coolmore has announced its Group 1 winner Soldier of Fortune has been retired to stand at Haras du Logis Saint-Germain. Coolmore had been looking to send a horse to stand in France for a number of years and Soldier of Fortune is an ideal type to appeal to local breeders.
Soldier of Fortune was a Group 1 winner of the 2007 Irish Derby and 2008 Coronation Cup. He bows out as the third-highest rated son of Galileo.
His French victories included G2 wins in the 2007 Prix Noailles and Prix Niel. He was also placed in the 2006 Criterium de Saint-Cloud (G1) and 2008 Arc de Triomphe (G1).
“Soldier of Fortune is a fantastic-looking horse with a lovely head, great bone and a great walk,” said agent Marc-Antoine Berghgracht who brokered the deal. “He’s typical of the Sadler’s Wells line and has got everything you look for in a stallion.”
Soldier of Fortune’s initial French fee has been set at 10,000 euros.
