Darley shuttler and triple G1 winner Dubawi recorded his first Northern Hemisphere winner overnight when debutant Dubai Story won over 1200m at Marseille.

Dubai Story (2c Dubawi-Portella by Protektor) cost 50,000 euros and is the third foal for German 1,000 Guineas winner Portella, who is also the dam of dual winner Classic Port (Slickly) and Piste Perdue (Exceed and Excel).

Undefeated as a juvenile, Dubawi returned as a three-year-old to win the 2005 G1 Irish Two Thousand Guineas where he defeated Oratorio, prior to a third-place finish in the G1 Epsom Derby. He also recorded wins in the G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville defeating Valixir and the G1 National Stakes at The Curragh before concluding his career with an overall record of five wins from eight starts and over $1.2 million in prize money.

Dubawi was the first winner for his sire Dubai Millenium and is out of 1998 G1 Italian Oaks winner Zomardah (Deploy) and hails from the same family as English G1 winner and sire High Rise (High Estate), who has 118 two-year olds from his first crop.

Dubawi’s oldest Southern Hemisphere progeny are yearlings and have sold for up to $425,000 at the sales.

He is set to return to Australia for his third season at a reduced service fee of $16,500 inc gst.
