Zabeel filly Coulis capped a quick rise up the ranks with a Listed victory in the Tasmanian Oaks at Launceston on Sunday.  She also completed a winning week for Pinecliff Racing owner Jonathon Munz and his private trainer Rod Douglas.

Coulis (3f Zabeel – Fleischer by Danehill) won her maiden as recently as January 7 at Seymour.  She started favourite in the Oaks following a game third placing to Geegees Blackflash and Kinnersley in the G3 Tasmanian Derby.

Coulis is out of Pinecliff’s Sandown Listed winner Fleischer who is a half-sister to G1 Oakleigh Plate winner Reactive (Geiger Counter).  She has foaled four winner so far including Roubechon (Quest for Fame) who was a Listed winner of the 2005 Jayco Cup at Caulfield.

The Pinecliff team completed a feature double at the Mornington Cup meeting last Wednesday with Huxssen and Glenkinchie.  Both winner are by Arrowfield stallions.

Huxssen (4g Hussonet – Musical Tones by Diesis) arrived with a late finish to lob in the Listed Hareeba Stakes by a long neck.  He was appearing for the first time since an unplaced run at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.

“Huxssen is such a gifted galloper,” Douglas said.  “We all know what he is like and we all tend to say he is a pretender but he is such a good horse.”

Douglas will set him for another black-type race on Super Saturday at Flemington on March 6.  His dam foaled a Hussonet filly in October and was bred back to the Arrowfield sire the following month.

Pinecliff first-starter Glenkinchie was an impressive winner of the Super VOBIS Inglis Bonus on the Cup day support card.  

Glenkinchie (2f Redoute’s Choice – Distilled by Masterclass) led them up and boxed on bravely to deny That’s Not It (Foreplay) and Eclair Mystic (Stratum) in a three-way photo finish.

Glenkinchie’s dam Distilled won at Flemington and also earned black-type in Adelaide racing in Pinecliff’s colours.  She is a half-sister to champion miler Racing To Win (Encosta de Lago) and G3 winner Purrealist (Tale of the Cat) who stands at Makybe.
