Counselling off the mark for Masterpiece

Crown Valley Lodge sire Masterpiece (Arg) broke through for his first winner at Deniliquin on Saturday.

Counselling (3g Masterpiece – Estoorah by El Moxie) started an even-money favourite in the Deniliquin Hotelliers & Motelliers Hcp (1000m) and was untroubled to score by more than a length.  He is one of 8 first-crop starters to date by Masterpiece.

Based at Echuca, Counselling is part-owned and trained by Daryl Archard in partnership with the McGillivray family who bought his dam Estoorah at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne March Sale.  She was carrying the Deniliquin winner at the time.

Masterpiece (Southern Halo) was a G1 winner of the 2004 Gran Premio San Isidro in Buenos Aires and was then exported to the USA where he added Listed victory in the Brubaker Hcp at Del Mar.

Masterpiece was imported to Australia by Dennis Stogryn in 2008.  After two seasons, he was transferred to Chatswood Stud before a further move to Crown Valley Lodge where he stands for a $5,500 (inc gst) fee.
